Dedication of the Regimental Chapel, St Anne's Cathedral, Belfast.

On parade were the Colours of the 1st, 2nd and 4th Battalion of The Royal Irish Rangers with marching detachments from the Depot at Ballymena, and 4 and 5 (V) R IRISH. The 350 strong parade exercised the Regiment's rights as Freemen of Belfast and marched down Royal Avenue to St Anne's Cathedral with Colours flying, drums beating and bayonets fixed. The parade, led by the Bugles, Pipes and Drums of 4 (V) R IRISH and the Regimental Mascot Brian Boru III, was commanded by Lieutenant Colonel N J Lefroy, the commanding officer of the Depot. The salute was taken at the former Grand Central Hotel by the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Mrs Grace Bannister.

The Regimental Chapel Act of Dedication was led by Bishop Dr Arthur Butler. Also taken into safe keeping by the cathedral at the service were the last Stand of Colours presented to 1st Battalion The Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers and the 1st Battalion The Royal Irish Fusiliers as were the personal banners of Field Marshal Sir Gerald Templer and General Sir James Steele, and the prayer Book used by Major General James Majury when as a Captain he conducted camp services whilst a prisoner of war in Korea.
