William lands in England

William, Prince of Orange, was invited to invade England by a group of influential political and religious leaders in what became known as the 'Glorious Revolution'. William landed with his army at the southern English port of Brixham on 5 November 1688. James II was deposed and William and Mary became joint sovereigns in his place. His mother was Charles I's daughter and his wife Mary was James II's daughter. William and Mary were crowned King and Queen on 11 April 1689 and reigned jointly until Mary’s death on 28 December 1694, after which William ruled as monarch.
