HM The Queen Silver Jubilee Northern Ireland Coleraine

Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh arriving at the Garden Party accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant for County Londonderry, Colonel M W McCorkell and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, the Rt Hon Mr Roy Mason.

HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh paid a two-day visit to Northern Ireland in August 1977 as part of The Queen's Silver Jubilee celebrations. The Regimental Depot at Ballymena played a large part in supporting her visits to Hillsborough and Coleraine. On arrival at Hillsborough The Queen inspected a Guard of Honour mounted by the Ulster Defence Regiment.

After all is over - and the remainder of the Empire is understandably irritated with Ireland - I hope these countless Duffs, from both the North and the South, and in all three services, will be remembered.
