Suez Crisis, Britain and France invade Canal Zone.

British and French troops invaded Port Said (Operation MUSKETEER) the night of 5/6 November 1956 and took control of the Suez Canal. True to their previous positions, the United States, Soviet Union and United Nations condemned the British and French operation. The British were forced into a cease-fire by 7 November as they needed to maintain American support for what was already a very weak British economy.
